Agatha Christie is perhaps one of the best known and loved crime writers ever! Her travels in Egpyt in her early years and later with her husband Sir Max Mallowan inspired one of her best known novels ‘’Death on the Nile’’ set on a River Nile cruise ship.
Keen Christie fans will love their tour of Luxor as some of the Poirot scenes in the ITV (UK) version were filmed at Karnak, and the 1978 movie version from UA starring Peter Ustinov was filmed around Aswan.
True fans following the whole Christie Trail will start at Mena House in Cairo, then The Winter Palace in Luxor, and finally The Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan, but hopefully your tour will not include any murders!
While on your tour of Aswan you will see some of the sights mentioned by Christie.... For instance the Elephantine Rocks are shown below, on these you will see a Nileometer carved indicating the height of the flood waters.
You can also visit the gardens on Kitchener Island.
